Materials:
Notebook: a one subject composition or spiral bound notebook should be fine for our purposes. Feel free to get something larger if you want. Most importantly, I just care that you have a fresh notebook for this class only and that you bring it with you every day.
Pencil or pen (blue or black ink only)
Folder
Basic scientific calculator or graphing calculator ****PHONE CALCULATOR USE IS NOT PERMITTED IN PHYSICAL SCIENCE. ****
Attendance: IN PERSON DAYS - You must be present. ON REMOTE DATES - You must complete the daily check-in to be marked present off site.
Grading: FORMAL GRADES - 60% Tests - 60%
Unit tests are announced in advance.
If you are absent on the test day, you are permitted to make it up in a timely manner (this must be done before the next unit test). It is your responsibility to come to me and schedule a time to make up the test.
Test questions will cover any material that takes place in or out of class. It is your responsibility to maintain your materials for studying.
Test answers may be in pencil or blue/black ink only.
I do not offer extra credit assignments. You will have the opportunity to improve your grade and LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES by making test corrections (for partial credit) on each unit test. On the day your test is returned, you will have exactly one week to complete and submit corrections. For each incorrect question on the test, on a separate sheet of paper stapled to the BACK of the test, you must
Number the question and rewrite it word for word.
Clearly mark your new answer ex. Multiple choice letter, T/F, vocabulary word, short answer, or word problem showing all work/equations/calculations/units/circled numerical answer just as we do in class.
Include at least two complete sentences explaining your error, AND reason for choosing the new answer. I WILL NOT ACCEPT new answers only without the explanations; and I will not accept sloppy, incomplete, or rushed explanations.
Return the corrections stapled to the test before you turn it in any time before the day of the next test. The test corrections bins are labeled near my desk. (If you are remote you will submit electronically).
INFORMAL GRADES - 40% (will be broken into two sections) Quizzes - (25%)
Quizzes should be expected between unit tests or projects. Quizzes will cover class notes and discussion; so as with tests, your daily attendance is important for your success.
Corrections will not be provided on quizzes - these grades are final.
Classwork/Labs/Notebooks/Homework - (15%)
Examples of classwork assignments are worksheets, book assignments, labs, activities, webquests, posters, warm up questions, exit questions, current events, etc.
Late assignments will be accepted during the unit; however, I will reserve the right to deduct points as necessary. I will not bother you for missing work. Your grade is your responsibility.
You are expected to keep an organized notebook that is up to date.
Final Grade Calculation: Average from two quarter grades
Remote Learning: On remote learning days, students are expected to check in to Canvas each day for attendance, and to complete any/all remote activities by the specified due dates.
