PREREQUISITE: Earth/Environmental Science. This course offers students an in-depth study of the wildlife species of North Carolina: habitats, ecosystems, environmental factors, environmental chemistry, aquatic resources, and native species. Students will study requirements and roles in the ecosystem, endangered species, wildlife management, human impact, conservation and environmental protection, and the scientific methods of studying and tracking wildlife. Concepts will be reinforced through field trips. Students will be encouraged, but not required, to participate in extended learning experiences and extracurricular activities I organize outside of school.

NO CELL PHONES Phones must not be used or out of your bag during class time unless I’ve given permission. If cell phone use becomes an issue, I will simply collect them at the start of class and return them at theend. Failure to comply will result in a consequence such as a note home, break detention with me, or an office referral.
I will collect all cell phones prior to tests and quizzes.
Be on time and prepared for class.
Please do not move around the desks unless I say so. You must sit in your assigned seat.
Consequences for Breaking our Codes: 1st verbal warning/discuss with student
2nd verbal warning/reflection/contact parent
3rd move to new location/teacher detention/contact parent 4th removal from class/contact parent/referral
Materials:
Notebook: a one subject composition or spiral bound notebook should be fine for our purposes. Feel free to get something larger if you want. Most importantly, I just care that you have a fresh notebook for this class only and that you bring it with you every day.

Attendance: IN PERSON DAYS - You must be present. ON REMOTE DATES - You must complete the daily check-in to be marked present off site. Grading: “Daily” Grades Worksheets, discussions, current events, field activities, readings, warm ups, identification practicals, etc. 30% of quarter grade
Projects Multi-media project assignments for particular topics 40% of quarter grade
Quizzes Announced quizzes covering any class material and the identification quizzes (notes, discussion, reading, video, activity, etc.) 30% of quarter grade
Teacher made final exam Comprehensive exam for the course 20% of final grade (other 80% is the average of two quarters) Final Grade Calculation: 80% quarter average and 20% teacher made exam
Remote Learning: On remote learning days, students are expected to check in to Canvas each day for attendance, and to complete any/all remote activities by the specified due dates.
